This New Year the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will hold ‘Amazing Thailand Countdown 2019’ celebrations in Bangkok and four emerging tourism provinces in each of Thailand’s geographical regions.
Featuring fireworks and music and dance performances, these will be at the Clock Tower in Chiang Rai in the North, at the Clock Tower in Nakhon Phanom in the Northeast, at the Clock Tower in Ratchaburi in the Central region and at Pakbara Pier in Satun in the South. The location for the Bangkok event is IconSiam, the glittering new shopping and entertainment complex alongside the Chao Phraya River in Khlong San (Thonburi).
“The Amazing Thailand Countdown is a major event the TAT has consistently organized over the years at various destinations across the country. The purpose is to promote Thailand as the ultimate destination for Thai and overseas tourists alike. It’s also an effective way to help stimulate the economy and distribute income to people in every region”, said TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn.
In Bangkok, the TAT expects more than 1 million people within a two km radius to watch the fireworks display at IconSiam. The display will showcase the history of the Chao Phraya River pertaining to the Thai way of life, traditions and legends of Siam, and also celebrate Thailand’s global status with the flags of other countries and their links to Thailand.
Kicking off at 6 pm on 31 December 2018, the Bangkok event will comprise six hours of celebration and performances based on the theme ‘The River of Prosperity’ jointly organized by the TAT, IconSiam and various private and public sector partners. A live broadcast from the event will run on MCOT, PPTV, True4U, TNN and Thai PBS from 11.05 pm on 31 December to 12.20 am on 1 January 2019.
Another major New Year event in Bangkok will be at CentralWorld, under the banner ‘Thailand & AIS Bangkok Countdown 2019’ and featuring fireworks, a 360-degree light and sound show and over 200 popular artists and DJs from Asia. There will be live broadcasts of ‘AIS Bangkok Countdown 2019@CentralWorld’ on 3SD channel and 3HD channel, and also through Multi View on the AIS Play application and AIS Playbox.
