Bangkok police say they are cracking down on street racing ahead of the mid April Songkran holiday, after an operation Friday night into early Saturday saw nearly 100 motorcyclists arrested in the capital.
Officers from 10 police stations in Bangkok manning road checkpoints made the arrests. By the end of the operation, 90 motorcyclists had been arrested and 90 motorbikes seized.
At a press conference held in the early hours of Saturday, the police said among those arrested were 45 under 18-year-olds and seven females.
The 45 teenagers would be summoned with their parents to meet police next week, for attitude adjustment. The parents will be warned that if their children are arrested again, they may end up in jail for supporting illegal activities.
