More raids around Thailand on Wednesday saw a total this time of 93 foreigners arrested, mostly for illegal entry into the kingdom and visa overstay.
At a press conference in Bangkok to announce the results of the operation, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau Pol Maj-Gen Surachet Hakpal said 62 suspects were arrested for illegally entering Thailand and 18 for overstaying their visa. Another 13 suspects were arrested on other charges.
Surachet said the Tourist Police together with other police agencies searched three international schools, nine language schools and 60 normal schools where it’s thought foreigners might illegally be working, and 46 other locations.
He said the raids were also aimed at finding foreigners who posed as tourists but operated call centre and romance scams, credit card and ATM identity theft and other crimes.
